A Christian Ministry Serving Central Indiana and the World

Grounded in the Teachings of John Calvin and the Reformation

“Our faith must always be fully governed and ruled by the simple Word of God,
and we must reject the additions that men have made” (John Calvin).

Purpose

Wabash Bible Ministries seeks to serve as a resource to all seekers of truth.  We exist to help promote the teaching and understanding of the Bible and historic Christianity in Indiana, the United States of America, and throughout the world.

Many churchgoers today have little knowledge of the Bible’s teachings as many churches only teach selected topics or portions of the Bible.  A person can go to church for their entire lifetime and learn very little of the Bible.  We believe that it is God’s Word and the Holy Spirit speaking to us through God’s Word that transforms lives, not man’s clever inventions, human-interest stories, comedy, or entertainment.  We must not settle for a watered-down Christianity.  Jesus Christ commanded us to live by every word of God (Matthew 4:4; Luke 4:4).  God tells Christians that as they mature they must leave “the elementary teaching about the Christ,” partaking of “solid food” instead of just baby “milk” (Hebrews 5:12-6:3).  We must study “the whole counsel of God,” for “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (Acts 20:27; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

In many churches today, a complex system of traditions has overshadowed the simple teachings of the Bible.  In contrast, the early Christian church “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine [teachings] and fellowship, in the breaking of bread [the Lord’s Supper], and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).  They taught and admonished one another “in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16; cf. Ephesians 5:19).  They did not just sit; they went and made disciples of all the nations, “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that [Jesus Christ] commanded them” by His Word (Matthew 28:19-20).

We pray that the Lord might once again bring about a reformation in the churches, as He did after the spiritually dark age preceding the Protestant Reformation led by Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, and many others in the 1500s.  Such a reformation would result in a growing number of Christians who seek to conform their beliefs, their churches, their worship, and their lives to the teachings of God’s Word.  It would produce a simple and pure religion that resists the temptations of money, power, materialism, manipulation, and worldly applause, instead seeking to honor and serve God and esteem Him and His truth above all else.

Even if corruption and hypocrisy are prevalent, we should not become cynical or lose hope.  On the contrary, now is the time to go back to that which is most trustworthy, God’s never-changing Word of truth.  The Bible has not changed; nor has God, for “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

Beliefs

Wabash Bible Ministries proclaims God’s all-sufficient, never-changing Word of Truth.

We believe in the historic Christian faith, the faith of Jesus and His apostles, which like God’s Word has survived the ages of time, despite the many corruptions, persecutions, and periods of spiritual darkness that have put it to the test.

We believe the Scriptures, consisting of the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament and the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, are the whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for what we believe about God, His worship, man’s salvation, faith and life.  In other words, Scripture alone is sufficient for what Christians believe and practice.  The Bible is God’s revealed will for our lives, to which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations or human traditions; nor is anything ever to be taken away from God’s Word.

We believe that God alone is the Lord of men’s consciences.  God has left men’s consciences free from the teachings and commandments of men, which are in addition to God’s Word in matters of faith or worship, or which are contrary to His Word in anything.  Thus, to believe humanly-invented doctrines or to obey such commands out of conscience is to betray the true liberty of conscience by which Christ has made us free.

We believe that people are justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone and called to live to the glory of God alone.

We believe that there is one true God and one true church of Jesus Christ, which is the pillar and ground of the truth.

We believe that Jesus Christ gives His people true hope and peace.  We have the hope of eternal life, for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  As the truth is spoken in love and embraced, we witness the Holy Spirit’s power to change and transform lives.  We believe that Jesus Christ brings true peace and unity, if we follow Him and obey His Word.

We exist to help fulfill the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ, which calls His church to go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the triune God, and teaching them to observe all things God commanded us in His Word.
